The Travel Channel’s “Church Secrets and Legends” series will feature an episode about Fall River’s former Central Congregational Church on Rock Street and Lizzie Borden, its most infamous parishioner.
The episode will air Sunday at 10 p.m. Local Borden expert and author Stefani Koorey will be featured in an interview about Lizzie and her church.
The Central Congregational Church is a historic building at 100 Rock St. designed by Boston architects Hartwell & Swasey, who also designed several other notable buildings in Fall River, including the Academy Building and several city fire stations. The church dates to 1875.
In 1892, Borden was active and was a Sunday school teacher at Central Congregational Church before she was accused of murdering her father and stepmother at their Second Street home.
“Church Secrets and Legends” presents “soaring cathedrals to intimate chapels, and sanctuaries of all faiths” and the beacon they provide for seekers and a stage for astonishing mysteries, according to the show's Travel Channel website.
“From divine intervention to unholy terror, we uncover the mysteries of the world’s greatest houses of worship,” the website says.
